Abdul Yamobi A trial date has been set for a Boone County Jail inmate accused of beating a Muslim inmate because he dislikes Muslims, according to court records. Michael D. Mathis, 24, of Lebanon, ruled A block, Muslim inmates reportedly told police after Mathis injured Abdul Yamobi, 54, Zionsville, on Dec. 29. “Mathis stated that he entered A3 to confront the Muslims for spreading bad rumors about him for being in the Aryan Brotherhood … Mathis then stated he knocked out the ‘old boy’ (Yamobi) because Yamobi sucker punched him in the neck,” jail investigator Caleb Collier reported. Most of the inmates in cell block A did not want to talk about the incident with investigators, but all three who did, including Mathis, said Mathis started a fight because of Yamobi’s religious preference, according to a probable cause affidavit. Mathis and Yamobi were both treated at Witham Hospital in Lebanon. Mathis has a strained neck muscle, and Yamobi suffered a facial laceration, fractured left orbital floor, sprained right thumb, left temporomandibular joint contusion and right shin abrasion, according to court records.
